Day 3 of the Film Studies Blog

Read 2 pages of "Stars" and found pretty much all i needed ...... (score)....

Could either have a television interview with Francesco Alberoni and Richard Schickel as they both have ideas of what is a "star" or have Alberoni giving a speach to scholars about what a "Star" is. Or be pretty simple and just use the quote from the book.

Alberoni suggested various social structures for "stardom to exist". These structures don't automatically produce stars but grounds on which stardom may be produced.

Alberoni definition of "Stardom": "The powerless elite". Stars are a group of people "whose institutional power is very limited or non existent, but whose doings and ways of life arouse considerable and sometimes maximum interest".

He suggested basic conditions for Stardom:
- A State of Law.
- An efficent bureucracy.
- A structured social system.
- A large scale society (everyone knows who stars are, but stars cannot know everyone.
- Economic development above subsistenence (film stars in india).
- Social mobility (anyone can be a star).

Will write what Schickel thought in "Day 4"

Day 2 of the Film Studies Blog

Watched "A Cinderella Story".....Such a crap film....

However; ties with my original question which was that the hollywood multi star is dominitive of the film industry.

Hilary Duff - The main star of this film, is the first voice heard at the begining of the film. She is the narrator of her past life then is the focus character of the film.

Some of the stars music is also used in this film - again this re inforces the point i am trying to make from this question.

The next step is to read the book "Stars"

Peace out =] xx

Reviews

I Am Legend - Will Smith
Channel 4

"One man and his dog subsist in a near future New York where a man made virus has killed most of the world's population and transformed others into raving monsters. Will Smith stars in this latest adaptation of Richard Matherson's classic novel.
The movies have given us some classic versions of a world in which human civilisation has been destroyed, and a fair share of them are based on, or inspired by just one novel: Richard Matherson's i am legend.
Published in 1954, the book has been explicated adapted as a 1964's the last man on earth and the 1971's the omega man and now we have a film that borrows the original title, even if it excises the novel's reasoning for it. This version is very much i am legend for the 9/11 age. Will Smith takes the role previously played by Vincent Price and Charlton Heston.
Where the previous films relied wholly on inventive shooting, this new version is able to depopulate the world and ravage the big city with the aid of CGI. Although the digital effects have few ropey moments, they enable director Francis Lawrence and his collaborators to create a chilling version of a Manhattan populated by only one healthy human.

Rotten Tomatoes

With " I am Legend " Will Smith has accomplished what Tom Hanks did back in 2000: Effectively star in a movie that involves very little interaction with other human counterparts.

The actors natural characteristics carries the movie in "I am LEgend" a film in which Smith is left talking to himself most of the time."

Herbie Fully Loaded - Lyndsay Lohan

BBC Films

Having cut her milk teeth on the The Parent Trap and Freaky Friday, teen Starle Lindsay Lohan buckles up for yet another Disney remake in Herbie: Fully loaded. The latest outing for the VW Beetle with the body of a bug and the heart of a champion is a cutsey affair that runs out of gas long before its big race finarle. But Lohan's feisty charm and Herbie's nostalgic appeal prove a winning
